Practicum Observations – Practicum # 2 – weeks 1 and 2 of 7
Well. One thing that really affects a practicum is placement. I was very lucky and got a great sponsor teacher and wonderful grade 6s. That part was amazing.
I taught seven lessons and without fail, they all went swimmingly. Especially the last one in Art.
What was not ideal was the unnecessary stress placed upon me by the location of the placement. I had not even realized how much the stress was affecting me until the last day. By the end of that day I was an emotional, physical and mental wreck. And this could all have been avoided had the person in charge of placements been reasonable. I know that’s not what I’m supposed to put here, but that’s the way it is.
Due to that and some other issues, well… let’s just leave it at that.
On a more positive note, I learned a neat new way to restore order. It has to be established early on, but once it’s in place, it’s wonderful. I didn’t think they would respond when I did it (as opposed to their ‘real’ teacher) but they did! I was so pleasantly surprised.
Another thing I learned is that I am working way too hard on the lesson plans.
That's it.
Christine out.
